The Japanese Calligraphy class is designed for learning the basics of Japanese calligraphy and for producing your own beautiful piece of art. Our aim is for you to discover inner peace and strength through learning authentic Japanese calligraphy, and to bring that same mindfulness to all aspects of your daily life.
The class is for both Japanese and non-Japanese speakers.

THE JAPAN CALLIGRAPHY FOUNDATION
(Nihon Shuji)
Founded in 1953 by Kanpo Harada (1911 ~ 1995) in Fukuoka, Japan to pass down the tradition of Japanese calligraphy to the following generations whilst preserving the philosophy of “Tradition, beauty, love of calligraphy”.
You will practice various forms of Japanese calligraphy by using a monthly textbook and submit up to two artworks each month to The Japan Calligraphy Foundation. Your work will be assessed whether it merits a promotion in ranking or not. The promotion ranking system starts from 10th kyuu to 1st kyuu(Kyuu:junior rank) and then semi 1st dan(Dan:senior rank) goes up to 8th dan. We offer different kind of qualifications and instructor certification opportunities to the rank of dan holders.

About Membership
Lessons begin with registration at the Japan Calligraphy Foundation.
You are welcome to join at any time.
Flexible Learning
Learn at your own pace and according to your schedule.
If you are unable to attend a live online session, simply send an image of your work by the lesson date.
Your instructor will carefully review your work and provide personalised feedback and guidance.
Lesson Fees
The lesson fee includes six months of lessons (twice a month) and a monthly textbook.
Materials
Materials are not included.
They can be purchased from amazon.co.jp or Japan Centre in London.
Textbook Delivery
Your texbooks will be delivered to your home each month.
Membership Benefits
Members are eligible to receive grades and certificates (similar to Karate or Judo) and may take part in competitions held at least twice a year.
